Gregory Isaacs: "The CoolRuler" of Love Reggae Classics
Published October 11, 2004
Gregory Isaacs ranks as one of the true superstars of reggae music, with a career that spans over three decades. Born in 1951, his constant release of great tunes has given him worldwide recognition.
In Jamaica they call him "The Cool Ruler", due to his slow style of cool melodious tunes. Gregory Isaacs is aware of the problems of the world, yet he hardly sings about them. Well-dressed all the time, the gentleman of reggae tilts his hat halfway on his head and gives out sweet love songs to his audience.
With a sharp, melodious and sentitive voice, he has recorded great albums such as "Out Deh", "Lady of Calibre", "Night Nurse", "Sinner Man", "My Poor Heart" and a host of others, with great tunes such as "Hard Drug" "Not the Way" and "Star."
In his musical career Gregory Isaacs faced many personal problems including imprisonment on gun and drug charges, but that couldn't break his will power physically or spiritually. His presence on today's music scene is every bit as powerful as in the past.
