Indiana gubernatorial mission statements
Published September 27, 2004
This week, the Sunday Indianapolis Star featured column length mission statements from the three candidates for Indiana governor from Democrat Joe Kernan, Libertarian Kenn Gividen, and Republican Mitch Daniels. You can read their statements HERE.
Obviously, I'm going to favor Kenn Gividen's response. I think he's got the best ideas. However, he's my brother Libertarian and buddy, so maybe I'm not entirely objective.
However, I suggest that you READ THE THREE STATEMENTS and judge them for yourself. Now for starters, regardless of how much you agree or disagree with his policy ideas, tell me if you don't think that Kenn gave by far the most direct answer with the most specific plans.
I'd say that alone is more good reason to vote for Mr. Gividen than anything I've seen from either of the other two.
By the way, all three candidates will be debating Tuesday night (9-28-2004). The 90-minute event will be broadcast live by WFYI (Channel 20) and 90.1 FM. It is also expected to show nationally on C-Span. I predict that Brother Kenn keeps it real.

I noticed your comment in the right-hand column, Mike, so I'm here now with an answer for you:
Indiana, mission statements, and Libertarians aren't much of a draw.
It's a very narrow topic, while BC reaches the world, where there's a whole bunch of exciting stuff going on.
You're welcome.
Kind of flies in the face of the fairly voluminous attacks against libertarianism in so many other threads here at BC, Hal.
Thank you.
No, Mike.
For one thing, I haven't seen a lot of threads about libertarianism, besides one I started because I decided I wanted some info on the topic and everthing I saw elsewhere was so contradictory (it didn't help) and one by Al Barger shorthly after that (it didn't help, either).
Aside from that, there are occasional posts by AB, not unexpected since he's running for office, but I don't see all that much participation in those, either.
Mike, if you look at the most popular threads at BC they are often the most silly. A sure way to get comments is to say something sexual, such as 'boobs' or 'tits' in a headline. Or mention Britney, Christina or Paris. Moral of story: Don't take getting comments so seriously.
Hmmm. Second thoughts. One can easily use 'boobs' and 'libertarians' in a headline.

Hard not to notice the absence of traffic on this thread. Why is that? Is it that it was devoid of the sort of rhetoric that demands knee-jerk responses by the usual suspects, or, is it that there was the issuance of a challenge that none wished to, or was able to meet? I'm torn.
Anyhow, I will be in attendance at the gubernatorial debate tomorrow. I'll have to
