Femi Kuti, the son of the late Fela Kuti, the Afro-beat King, was a teenager when he joined his father's band. He witnessed all the atrocities and brutalities his father endured from the hands of successive military governments in Nigeria.

After his father's death, Femi stepped into his shoes to continue the his fight against the forces and the corrupt politicians who have brought his country and the continent low.

"There is so much corruption in Africa right now and people are so poor," said the 41 year-old son of the founder of Afro-beat. Femi's recent fifth album "Fight to Win" was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best World Music category. His nomination has contributed to bringing his works before the world stage. "If the Grammy comes my way, it will be dedicated to my cause," he said. The "cause", he is referring to is the many afflictions suffered by Africa, including AIDS, which is ravaging the continent.

Femi is angry at the corruption and decay affecting African society. "People don't want to face the problem of what is going on in Nigeria and Africa. Africans don't want to sacrifice their lives for anything. Everyone wants to say that God will provide," said Femi. Nigeria, is the world's seventh biggest oil producing country, yet corruption has diverted the resources of the country into the pocket of corrupt officials.

On stage, with his 20-piece band including traditional female dancers, Femi puts on a pulsating performance for thousands of fans at home and abroad.
