The cheap martyrdom theme didn't impress me. However, all of that (except for the martyrdom part) would apply <i>Purple Rain</i> as well. This is though, as Mr Lamb suggests, much more of a movie, with sets and scenery and such. Whereas Purple Rain was more obviously thrown together on a minimal budget with whatever happened to be on hand in Minneapolis.
