The New Nickels

Beginning in 2005, you will start using new nickels. Why is this important? I have no idea, but I do have some really fresh pictures to share with you. Without further adieu.

The first new nickel is still of Thomas Jefferson, although I have to say this profile shot makes him look a touch on the crazy side. What's he LOOKING AT?

Maybe it's Mrs. Jefferson. The second new nickel shows the Great American Buffalo. Under the Buffalo is the phrase, 'e pluribus unum', which of course means 'out of many, one'. Sad that this is fitting for the American Buffalo.

The third nickel commemorates the arrival of Louis and Clark's expedition to the Pacific Coast. In his journal, Clark actually wrote 'Ocian', but the U.S. Min has taken upon itself to capture the spirit of his words, rather than write 'ocian[sic]' on the nickel. Most people wouldn't understand that. I sure wouldn't.

love it, hate it, there's more of it at pacetown.
