Rhapsody deliver fantasy metal...

Symphony of Enchanted Lands II: The Dark Secret
Rhapsody
(SPV)

This is full-length CD, of the taster that I reviewed a few months back. The CD features the talents of Chrisopher Lee as narrator, which adds a certain level of credibility to the whole thing. It has to be said that having the great man on a disc from a band that claims its music is "epic Hollywood metal" is rather appropriate. Rhapsody deliver power metal at its most ott and prog-like. There is a touch of opera in here as well. While not quite at Therion levels of opmp-tastic opera, Rhapsody keep it to minimum to add to its impact. The subject matter is myths, legands, monsters, and magic. It's good fun and has its place. If you like Rhapsody there is enough on here to keep you happy. This is by far the best slab of music produced by this band. The CD has a continuity to it which helps give it a feeling of a fantasy novel set to music. If you aren't yet familiar this with this lot, but like power metal, you should get this disc. If you want the full Rhapsody treatment, you can hold out for the limited edition version with bonus DVD included. Decent music and good value, what is there not to like?

Rating: 4.5/5

Marty's band, Growing Old Disgracefully, can be found at: Disgraceful Music. His Cthulhu tales can be found at Temple of Dagon.

Any idea of the release date of the full album? The Amazon link seems to go to the taster again.
