This post is about optimizing Macintosh OS X, particularly on an iBook or Powerbook where disc space is at a premium. So, if this doesn't apply to you, just move along, nothing to see here.

Okay, now that the lookie-loos have moved on to stare at discussions of what is the political stance of your ketchup, I found a programme today on Versiontracker which deletes unwanted language kits from your Mac. It's called Monolingual. What it does is remove the language kits from a standard install of OS X. Chances are you don't use almost all of them, so why should they take up hard drive space, especially on a laptop where disc space is at a premium. I ran the programme, and wound up getting nearly 600 mb back on my iBook.

This is a free programme under GPL, and a good tool in fighting bloat.
