thanks for the update on this.  our show is always looking for public domain songs to use.  most are about 75 years old.  

do you (or anyone) know of a site that might list songs (like the guthrie song) where the copyright has expired?

a couple of years ago...we wanted to use a bit of &quot;the happiest girl in the whole usa&quot; in our show and they were wanting almost $4,000 for a one time use.
