Marillion to release new CD stateside

Twenty-one years after the release of their first album, Script For A Jester's Tear, MARILLION will release their thirteenth studio album, Marbles, in the US on October 5th through Dead Ringer Records. The album was released in Europe on May 3rd through their own label The album's single, 'You're Gone', charted at position #7 in the UK (the week's second highest entry) and at position #8 in Holland, earning the band a slot on Top Of The Pops. Marillion have sold more than 14 million records worldwide.ÊTheir thirteen studio albums (four with Fish as lead singer '82-88; 9 with Steve Hogarth)Êhave hit worldwide charts continuously: eight UK Top 10 albums, nineteen UK Top 40 singles. They have performed over 1,100 shows to well over 2 million people and are currently working on a 43-date worldwide tour that commenced May 2004 and will find the band playing to audiences in England, Ireland, Germany, France, Holland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Spain, Italy, Poland, Switzerland, Mexico, and ending with dates in the US and Canada. As previously reported, Marbles features the following tracklisting: 'The Invisible Man', 'Marbles 1', 'You're Gone', 'Angelina', 'Marbles 2', 'Don't Hurt Yourself', 'Fantastic Place', 'Marbles 3', 'Drilling Holes', 'Marbles 4', 'Neverland', 'You're Gone' (single edit - bonus track).

I reviewed the album here when it first came out in Britain.
marillion was one of my favorite bands back in the day. unfortunately, i think the departure of fish proved the sum was greater than the parts. fish was never as good solo, and hogarth, while he has his moments, is definitely no substitute for mr. dick. "clutching at straws" is still one of my top ten cds of all time. too bad all parties have ruled out (on more than one occasion) any sort of reunion.
And of course there's the other side, of which I'm a part, that loves Hogarth-era Marillion and basically can't stand the Fish-led version of the band. The Fish years, to me, are just third-rate Gabriel-era Genesis (and early Collins-led Genesis, too.) But most of all, I just can't stand Fish's lyrics. His work is the kind of overly dramatic stuff that the really, really smart kids in high school would whip out with a sneer, thinking how superior they were to everyone else with their "deep thoughts" - when really they just look and sound like they play too much D&D.
