<description>Looking at this election from across the Atlantic, the US election looks pretty damned ugly.  All either campaign seems to be able to so is fling mud at the other side in the hope that some of it will stick.  No wonder only half of American citizens bother to vote.

I can&#039;t imagine a British election being anything like as dirty; maybe it&#039;s because our parliamentary system makes things less personal, or maybe it&#039;s because 100% negative campaigning we&#039;re seeing in the US isn&#039;t an optimal strategy when there are more than two parties in play.</description>
