Quizno's Hand-Carved Classic Turkey Sub
Published August 14, 2004
A pleasant surprise. This sub really does have the taste and almost the texture of the typical home-made we-had-roast-turkey-last-night sandwich.
If you are a fan of the traditional American turkey, mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato classic sandwich, Quizno's will not disappoint you. Unless you put off trying their hand-carved turkey - it's a limited time only thing.
They also offer a fancier version, ultimate turkey club or something, but I have not tried that.
In the interest of full disclosure, I should admit that I was boycotting Quizno's, in protest of their discontinuance of the SpongMonkey's TV ads (THEY GOT A PEPPER BAR!), and I still believe that was one of the worst decisions in the history of modern media marketing. I crossed my self-imposed picket line to try the new turkey sub with every intention of hating it, and sneering at them for promoting the new product as hand-carved, classic, or even turkey, but I was thwarted by the authenticity of this sandwich.
It is available on any of Quizno's breads. I chose white, as the inspiration product is usually made on white, and I made no special condiment requests, in order to sample the default combination.
Some work went into the Classic Turkey Sub, and even more surprising, some common sense. Quizno's already offers various poultry sandwiches laced with all the most fashionable condiments like faux chipotle, ranch and honey-mustard, but for this one, somebody's cool head prevailed.
If you are not familiar with Quizno's portion hierarchy, the small size is not. The regular size is proportioned for stevedores and teenagers in full-blown growth spurt, and the large is best left to Sumo wrestlers and people who take most of it home to eat later. And then some more even later, before wrapping up the still-sizeable remainder to keep it fresh for breakfast.

Sounds deeeeeee-likeable.
I wouldn't say the Quiznos servings are really all that large compared to other places, though. A regular usually does me pretty well, but sometimes leaves me wanting a bit more.. and I'm not a big eater, nor big.
Maybe that's just cause Canadian sizings are smaller though.
I'd definitely try this. Quizno's has some other sort of turkey sandwich that has some orange sauce that kind of looks like French dressing but doesn't taste like it. That sub's not bad, if you can get over it being so orange.
That is all.

RIP Sponge Monkeys...
