Just as Apple appears to be catching up on production of one of its most popular products, it has announced the latest iteration of another, the sturdy workhorse of its stable, will be late. The iPod Mini, for which some consumers waited months, has become readily purchasable now that Hitachi is no longer short of the hard drives required. But, businesses, schools and individuals awaiting new Power Macs will have to salivate a while longer. MacMinute has the details.

Several MacMinute readers report that their orders for the new Dual 2.5GHz Power Mac G5 have been delayed until late next month. "The demand for this item has been incredible," Apple said in an e-mail to customers. "We are shipping them as quickly as possible, but cannot meet the ship date we previously estimated for you. We now expect to ship your Power Mac on or before August 20th." When the liquid-cooled machine was announced in early June, Apple said it would ship in July. Customers who ordered the tower on the first day it was available were given an expected ship date of July 30.

As Newsweek reported recently, success has Apple jumping to keep up with increased demand for iPods and PowerBooks. Add the Dual Power Mac G5 to the list. At least customers who have finally received their iPod Minis can listen to music while they wait.
