Or at least a belief in Hell does. This brainstorm comes from a report by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, which concludes that those countries with a strong view of Hell are "less corrupt and more prosperous" than other countries.

Here's another gem of wisdom from the report..."all else being equal, the more religious a country, the less corruption it will have and the higher its per capita income will be."

Are the Most Religious Nations Among the Most Corrupt?

The least corrupt counties from Transparency International's 2003 report:

Not exactly hotbeds of religious fervor.

The most corrupt nations:

10. Tajikistan
