Pretend You're Alive by Lovedrug

This album came to me as part of a Blogcritics promotion. I don't know that I have much special insight on the record, but I owe one review - so here goes.

This album is not bad. It' not that good either. It was moderately listenable, and I managed not to fall asleep long enough to listen to the whole thing. Some of the songs sounded half decent while I was listening to them, but five minutes after the album finished playing I couldn't tell you anything about any particular song.

Lovedrug sounds to me indistinguishable from 1,000 other bands which usually are considered "modern rock" or "alternative" or whatever. Mix these songs up with Nickelback, Evanescence, and about a zillion others whose very names are indistinguishable, and I'd defy you to tell which song was which group.

To put it another way, this sounds like everything else on modern rock radio. If you think these other bands are great (SOMEBODY is buying a lot of their albums), then you might like this.

Unreformed hawkish Hoosier hillbilly and sometimes candidate Al Barger runs the still squeezin' down the psychodelic Kentucky moonshine at MoreThings.com, what with the paranoid religious visions and the Pentacostal music and visions of God and Sarah Palin and anarchy running amok and such. Somebody oughta call the cops to report his out of control freedom of conscience. Till they come to take him away somewhere where he can't hurt anyone else, you can check out his weekly column of NEW ALBUM RELEASES.

Man, Al, I'm not too into Lovedrug, but comparing them to Nickelback and Evanescence? That's just harsh...

wow...if this is "indistinguishable" from nickelback or the like...then you definitely don't have an ear that is discerning enough to be writing reviews. you could have at least thrown in a few references to the blatant radiohead and sunny day real estate similarities. i think your review was very lazy and crappy.

Agreed...

I've only heard the songs on purevolume.com, but I think they probably represent the album pretty well. Evanescence and and Nickeback??? I would say lovedrug is about as much like those bands as they are like Jay-Z... (OK, that was a little exaggerated)

Either way, the songs I've heard convinced me to buy it....just as soon as I get through listening to the other Militia Group CD's I bought today...

Lovedrug makes me happy :)

obviously this guy does not like indie music nor does he have an ear... seriously like the person said above a reference to sunny day real estate maybe but some of the worst bands of of era nickelback come on
