You'll Believe a Man Can Fly

In what has to be the best news regarding efforts to revive the long moribund Superman franchise that I've heard yet, Charlie's Angels director McG is out. And X-Men director Brian Singer is in.

Singer has long nursed a dream to direct a Superman movie.

"My interest in Superman dates back many, many years," he said. "In fact, it was the Richard Donner classic film that was my day-to-day inspiration in shaping the 'X-Men' universe for the screen. I feel that Superman has been late in his return and it is time for him to fly again."

This may affect the schedule of some of Singer's other projects, most notably a remake of Logan's Run and the third installment in the X-Men series (the latter is already scheduled for a May 2006 release). And it isn't really clear how all these will fit together, since Singer will probably be looking to have his own script in place - he has a reputation for being very invovled in the writing process, and may well ditch the numerous drafts already floating around. Nonetheless, given the quality of Singer's X-Men productions (and the sheer stupidity of virtually everything "McG" has been associated with), this is clearly the best news for Supes since they ditched Nicholas Cage as a prosective Boy Scout in tights.

Yup, looks like ol' Superman's luck is finally turning around.
