I was covering a convention once in Toronto and met this beautiful woman from Montreal at the Chelsea Hotel. We spent the entire week together, visiting Chinatown, Madison Avenue Pub, a Comedy Club, and other places. When she would call her parents she would speak in French. *sighs* She was the love of my life, though I never saw her again after that week. One day I shall visit Montreal for the first time. I hear it's a nice city.

What a thread: the obscure meets the abrasive meets the oblique. While the criticism was way too harsh, I think MD has it about right that in theory each post should stand alone: even a sentence or two set up (with link to further background info) is usually enough to give some context.

Beyond that, the only sure thing I know is that people don't give a shit about that which they don't give a shit.

re - jim's comment #9 - ah, i see now. Having just been attacked by a dose of the AIF, i see that the "that is all" sign-off is something of a regularity amongst a few.
Well, i can assure you that i was, in fact, thinking of that simpsons episode when the german folks are announcing the pay-offs. "Simpson. Homer. That is all."
So sorry for the confusion.

Typo in Comment 11: Should read "up to James to decide."

However, I believe a blog entry should make its points without people going to the links. Most readers do not check out the links. I believe links should offer additional information and context, not core material. It should be in the entry.

I think the funniest thing about all this is that I offered a link to my blog explaining what I'm talking about in the post. Therefore, if people actually cared to know what I'm talking about and not care about that but just want to complain instead, they would click on the link.

I didn't 'get' the entry either. Read it three times to make sure. Perhaps an explanation of the parties and the issues would have helped. Or, James might want to post things to Blogcritics that are not so insider. For example, Eric rarely posts entries from his local blog here. I discussed Portland in an entry recently, but only because it was a party to a lawsuit with national implications. Most of my regional stuff is not reposted here, either. It is up James to, of course, but people do get exasperated when they don't know what you're talking about.

Hey, I'm interested in Montreal city politics, not the least because I used to live there, and like a nice sherbet, provides a palette cleanser from the relentless stream of bullshit from elsewhere, where freedom is spelt: "I THOGHT I TOLDED YOU TO SHUT THE FCUK UP!!!!!!"
