A Red Sox fan's thoughts on the All-Star Game

It would be an understatement of considerable proportions to say that I couldn't have cared about this year's All-Star Game, given that the American League team carried eight Yankees on its roster, proving yet again that the Yankees are the Lords Almighty of Major League Baseball. Don't tell me that it was on the strength of fan voting that eight players from the same team were placed on the AL All-Star roster, 'cause I simply ain't buyin' it.

However, two Red Sox players did us proud. Left-fielder Manny Ramirez clocked a home run off Roger Clemens, and designated hitter David Ortiz had two hits in the game, one of them a home run as well. Both players walked away from the game with two RBI's each to their credit, accounting for a good four out of the nine runs scored.

Ramirez and Ortiz did the small - one could almost say token - Red Sox contingent proud and were definitely were key in the American League's 9-4 win over the National League.

Fantasia's rendering of "Star-Spangled Banner" made me want to denounce my citizenship.

Nothing like a shrill, funked up, gospel-on-crack version of the national anthem to make one want to wield a baseball *bat.

*duck, lady!

Any time Clemens gets slapped around I am a little bit happier. CC didn't do all that much better, though. I missed the Anthem.

Mark S.: "this was the first time i got to see gagne pitch. geez, that guy brings it."

The fascinating thing about Gagne is that he's not only a damn fine pitcher, but a Canadian - I mean, shouldn't he be playing ice hockey?
