Radio Ga Ga

Usually I cry to my friends, on this site, or generally to anyone who will listen about the disrespect that is given by the media towards Van Halen. Considering that they currently have one of the most successful concert acts this summer and their reunion looks solid, , it's barely a mention in the MTV world compared to anything Britney Spears related. Even those no-talent hacks Olsen Twins® generate more press in a day when one of them sneezes than Van Halen does in a week.
I usually cry about Van Halen's plight, but I would think that Queen deserves way more than they've been dealt with. Right now, they've been delegated to doing the songs they play at sporting events and that song they do in Wayne's World. Queen should be easily considered one of the greatest bands of all time. They've had 2 American number one hit singles. One album that hit number one and several others that made the top ten (despite Rolling Stone magazine panning most of them). In their homeland of England, they've had amazing success, rivaling the Beatles.
Whenever I talk to someone about music and mention that Queen was one of my first favourite bands, they always say somewhat the same thing usually concerning Freddie Mercury and his death. Almost how Nirvana gained in popularity and thrived like it hadn't ever before with Kurt Cobain's death, the opposite seemed to happen to Queen, who have dropped off the radar completely in terms of fond memories and fanatical classic rock talk.
Queen was one of the most diverse, energetic, entertaining, and interesting bands ever. Definitely one of the greatest. If you don't have it in your collection now, I would strongly suggest that you buy their greatest hits collection. It's sad to see that people don't know much about one of the greatest commercial bands of all time, but then again, supposedly Britney Spears albums are "great". I give up.
