Noel on new Oasis album

Noel Gallagher has sent the NME a little note... found via CMU.Gallagher: "We started talking about recording a new Oasis album in November last year. We thought it would be a great idea to try something different with the production this time around, and Liam came up with the idea of using Death In Vegas as producers/mixers, which everyone believed would be a fantastic collaboration. [We worked with DiV for three weeks but] unfortunately we decided we didn't like anything we had played/recorded. Because of commitments with Death In Vegas, Richard Fearless and Tim Holmes couldn't find any more time to give to the project. It was then decided we would attempt to finish off the record ourselves, which so far has proven quite frustrating and fruitless. We plan to start work on a new set of songs some time in July and we hope to have a new album out in February/March 2005, so hopefully you will hear some new tunes by the end of the year."

Yes, Matthew. Little By Little, Songbird, The Hindu Times, Fuckin' in the Bushes, all great songs from albums released after Be Here Now. And don't forget the fantastic compilation of B sides that is The Masterplan.

Funny that you mention the Beatles, Mark, as we haven't heard any "bigger than the Beatles" talk with regard to Oasis in a long time.
They've always been a band that I've liked a lot, despite not always wanting to. There's a volatile combo in there and some dynamite song writing to boot. That being said, I'm amazed they didn't go down in coke-fueled flames circa 1999 or so. So maybe they do have it what it takes to make it over the long haul... who knows?
