It's A Dog's Life

According to the Hollywood Reporter, DreamWorks Studios is preparing to unleash Unleashed upon unsuspecting audiences. Here's the pitch:

[T]he feature revolves around a show dog who, after losing the preliminaries on the dog show circuit, has a nervous breakdown. She runs away from her high-strung owner and finds herself at the city pound. There, she teams up with a streetwise stray, and together they lead their ragtag kennel mates in an escape effort that takes them all the way to the Westminster Dog Show.

There have been a long litany of dog movies, from Lady and the Tramp and Lassie to Benji and that stupid St. Bernard. They all suggested that dogs were far more intelligent than we gave them credit for, and many of them even talked. But the dogs must be hanging around humans far too much these days for them to be having nervous breakdowns. And somehow, I hazard a guess that the best picture to feature the Westminster Dog Show may still be Best in Show.
