G.o.D. grows in mysterious ways
Published July 07, 2004
The last week or so has been a rather big one in G.o.D.'s short existence; of that there is no doubt. First of all, we have finished with the first three demo tracks we are doing for a record company. One of which was used to see if I am suitable to fill-in for another band on the label. It turns out my range didn't mess with their music. I wish the band the best of luck in finding a new singer soonest. On Saturday, Wednesday evening, and Thursday morning John and I put in a great deal of work finishing off the tracks. As some time had elapsed since I first laid down my vocals on Soft Side it was determined that I should re-record the verses. As with any other instrument, the more it is used the better it sounds. We have found a way to get my vocals recorded most efficiently as well. John does a guide track for the verse(s) or chorus for me to sing and I repeat about 10 times into the mic as practice (so I can hear myself). John comes back and I don't have to think about the lyrics when I am recording. They are stuck firmly in my RAM. Hrm, sounds so bloody obvious, yet we didn't think of it until just over a week ago.
Due to real life consideration we were unable to finish the mixing of the second two tracks until yesterday evening. Because of the intesity of our work on Wed/Thurs John took Sat. "off" from the band. I didn't do much Saturday, but I did have the pleasure of attending an interesting luncheon in Chiswick with an eclectic bunch of people. Amongst the guests was a member of the cast (until his 400th performance and his last) of Jerry Springer, Wills Morgan, who regaled us with both tales and the music from Opera. Also included was an actress called Frika and various other industry types, including a movie composer, several fellow musicians, and an anti-American/globo/you- name-it bigot. This miserable little woman had a good go at me merely for being American. (You know the one who thinks a clever retort is "you would say that you are an American." And yes, Israel did come up as well as various veiled references to the Jews.) Of course, this might have been after I slapped her down verbally for calling my iPod an example of "consumerist rubbish." I explained to her that it was a tool for me to both review and learn music. Her various rants were particularily amusing, as the house was filled up to the gunnels with technology, whether it be decent sized/well equipped studio (John would drool) or the massive entertainment system upstairs. It will surprise no one to hear that when the musicians/singer types began to have a sing-song, she did not join in, and I believe she left not soon thereafter. The sing-song was really good fun and ranged from negro spirituals/rugby songs to Beatles tracks (which I didn't participate in).
