Got Water?
Published July 07, 2004
You know what??? I hope that the citizens of Dorval are stuck without clean drinking water for a long time. Furthermore, I hope that the government of Quebec implements a tax on bottled water so that those bastards have to pay for their assholyness.
Ealry Monday, a pipe burst somewhere in the city of Dorval, causing major flooding of the parking lot of the shopping centre in Dorval. So much water had leaked, that the water pressure in the town (or borough, it's still not Jan. 1, 2006 yet) fell significantly. With the drop in water pressure, the water could possibly become contaminated and according to regulations, the citizens must be told that the drinking water should not be used for human consumption for the time being and the alert can not be lifted until the water has been tested clean for 48 hours.
Normally, if this was a normal, average area, people would be working together and showing care for one another. However, Dorval is part of the West Island, whose citizens are the most whiniest and prissiest bunch of jackasses this side west of Toronto. In the numerous reports that I saw on the news about the incident, the comments by the townspeople of the city made my blood boil.
One guy complained that the city should have had enough extra bottled water on hand for it's citizens. The population of Dorval is 17 000. The average human needs 2L of water a day. If this water problem lasts the minimum 48 hours (or 2 day). That means that for the city of Dorval to make this guy happy would need 68 000 L or 17 000 gal. Forget that it's not economically feasible, why not find a place to put all that water. Hey, I gots an idea...what about that guy's house. That way, he'll be happy to know that the city has an emergency supply of water.
The one that gets me though was the woman who was complaining about the fact that there wasn't a bottle of water left in Dorval because everyone had been sold out. Forgetting the fact that she could boil her water, she complained that she would have to travel long distances to places like the South Shore, or head downtown. Apparently she also forgot that those locations she was talking about were not as close as other communities such as Dollard, LaSalle, or Lachine that she could have gone to without the long distance.
Remembering back on disasters, we had the big ice storm a couple of years back and it's always nice to remember everyone pulling together, strangers becoming neighbours, and good will overcoming the devastation that had left the province without power for over a week in some areas. When you have minor incidents like a microscopic flood and tainted drinking water you would think people would behave better. You would think...how naive.
**NOTE** Please don't take this so literally. I really don't wish harm on any living creature what-so-ever. What I'm doing with this article is using sarcasm to emphasize how stupid people are being. The literary world calls this a satire.

Satire-Irony, sarcasm, or caustic wit used to attack or expose folly, vice, or stupidity. (from Dictionary.com)
I was using sarcasm in my opening paragraph to expose the stupidity coming from some Dorval residents about their "plight". That's satire.
As well, I'm not telling the citizens to drink their dirty water nor did I tell they should be forced to drink it causing them harm. Like I said, I don't wish harm on anyone, unlike your words towards me.
Ignore those humourless haters, James, I've just read your post and found it hysterical. I'm a Pointe-Claire expat now living in London England (got sick of the shackles of West Island coziness), and your post just brought it all back to me in stereo, even though I saw it about seven months after the event. I'm thinking of setting up a satirical flyer/mini-magazine thing about the W.I. in the next year or so, and if it gets off the ground I'll see that you know about it!

Bitching about some local news story -- without any sense of humor, irony, or insight -- is NOT satire.
It's bitchin'.
Which any yahoo can do.
And does.
Try again.
PS: Oh, and have you met "In10sity"?? You two should form a team and play the open-air lounge at the Baghdad Hotel.
