The Expos Conspiracy

Back to the original question; does MLB actually want to move the team? I have my doubts. With each day that passes, I'm thinking more and more that they will keep the team in Montreal until they can convince the players that contraction is a good thing. There are a couple of factors contributing to this way of thinking. The Expos and the Olympic Installations Board, which maintains Olympic Stadium, had a brand new FieldTurf playing surface put in for this season. Other than the Montreal Alouettes CFL football team playing two games a year there, there really wasn't any reason for the Olympic Stadium to have a new playing surface if the Expos were moving in a year. As well, the customer locations in the Big O have been vastly improved, which hasn't been done in years. This may be a minor reason, but when I went to the opening game this season, I did notice the improvements and felt that it sure didn't feel as if the management felt like they were moving.
2) What do the former minority owners intend to do with there lawsuit? According to the details of the lawsuit, they're suing for damages for $200 million which can be tripled by the judge if they feel like it. I'm curious to know what the minority owners would do with the money if they win. Would they buy and save the Expos? Why do I doubt this? If you look at who the minority owners are, you'd understand my suspicions. A couple of the 14 minority owners include BCE Inc. (Bell Canada), BMO Nesbitt (Bank of Montreal), and Federation des Caisses Populaires Desjardins du Quebec. These are companies with assests in the billions. If they were really interested in the well-being of the Expos, they could easily buy the Expos. I mean, BCE was buying every Canadian media property organization the CanWest Global wasn't in the last couple of years. BCE could definitely buy complete ownership for the Expos themselves and it would actually be beneficial to them in the long run. They own The Sports Network TV station and with ownership of the Expos could pull a Ted Turner in which they would have broadcasting rights for the Expos for free.
I seriously believe that the minority owners are not interested at all in keeping the team in Montreal and are only looking at making money from this. I do seriously hope I'm wrong and if I am, I sincerely apologize for being a cynical asshole; but this sitting on their hands approach and waiting for the courts to decide the Expos fate (and in the meantime MLB might just sneak the team off to another city while this is going on despite the law) is not the smart approach nor is it the most settling for the fans of the team.
