The Duke Watches "Orgazmo"

So, then, you're probably thinking that Orgazmo is about making fun of the Mormon fella, and how he's so self-righteous and gullible, and hilarity ensues when the backwards little shit gets caught up in films about a man takes out his willy and waves it around, maybe strokes it, then puts it in an orifice of some sort.

You'd be reasonably close to the mark with that assumption.

Joe Young, played by Parker himself, is indeed a humorously naive individual, sent out to do his missionary work in LA, while his fiancée lives way back in Utah. They do kooky shit like say "Jesus and I love you" to one another. It's very satirical, no doubt.

These two youngsters want for all the world to get married in the big temple in Utah, but on account of the money involved, they fret about how it might never happen. But fate, or possibly Jesus, intervenes when Joe is offered a part in a pornographic film by the name of Orgazmo, about a superhero who defeats his enemies by utilising a metal thing strapped to his arm that fires out orgasms.

Also, Ron Jeremy stars in it, famous for his roles in Over 50 And Still Beautiful, How To Suck A Dick, Little White Chicks And Big Black Monster Dicks 11, as well as legitimate, non-porn affairs like Detroit Rock City or the frankly motherfucking wonderful Toxic Avenger IV - Citizen Toxie.

Citizen Toxie was of course a Troma movie, and plenty of Troma alumni pop up in Orgazmo, not least Lloyd Kaufman himself, in a cameo as a surgeon. Also, one scene in a video store has a brief shot of the "Classics" section, in which Toxic Avenger, Class Of Nuke 'Em High and several other Troma classics are plainly visible. We also see the religious section, which has such works of wonder as Jesus Scissorhands.

Alongside Ron Jeremy, there's also a few other porn folks, like a young woman by the name of Chasey Lain, who has made a notable impact via surrealist epics like Interview With A Vibrator and 2003's poignantly topical WMB - Weapons Of Masturbation.

I don't care what anyone says, man, these two motherfuckers by the name of Trey Parker and Matt Stone are two of the finest satirists you ever did see. They manage to be completely, degenerately juvenile and at the same time illustrate some truly profound and deeply humane idea.

What you missed was that "Orgazmo" is primarily a kung-fu movie in structure and plot points. The stunt cocks and double-vaginal - double-anal action are just the set dressing.

And in addition to a kick ass soundtrack, it has one of the best superhero rallying cries after Ben ("It's Clobberin' Time!") Grimm :

"Go In The Front, Come Out The Back and Fuck Their Shit Up!"

Plus it Jesus Approved (tm), He gave it the thumbs up, right there near the end.

I think "Orgazmo" is a better movie than their tribute to Zucker-Abrams-Zucker "Baseketball".

the back-alleys and rusted dumpsters of popular culture have rarely had a more charismatic and empathetic explicator - thanks Duke, you make it all seem almost noble.

Oh, by the way, I'm not sure understanding is what Michael Jackson needs - he may have received altogether too much understanding over the last 20 years or so. A person with less cash, power, and understanding over that time might have had to reconcile his internal world with the external one filled with actual real living people

Thanks fellas.
RJ, i just hope Roger Ebert sees fit to use that expression in his future reviewing malarky.
Jim, spot-on about the Kung Fu, although i haven't yet saw BASEketball, so i'll have to reserve judgement, by which i mean, wait till i do, in fact, see the film what goes by the name of BASEketball.
Eric, thanks, man! Nice words are always appreciated. As for Michael, i realise that right there is a pretty contentious topic, but i guess i just mean that for a show such as south park, it would have been easy to do what everyone else was doing, ie, go for cheap laughs and nothing else. It certainly had plenty of cheap laughs, but also looked on the matter sympathetically. Whilst it didn't excuse jackson, it saw that there was probably a mental illness at work there that caused him to act in what might seem like a malicious nature, but was probably genuinely innocent. He needs help, is what it seemed to say, not to be vilified.
Thanks as ever, folks.

I understand - he needs help AND needs to be vilified for not getting it. Just because someone is nuts doesn't mean they aren't dangerous.

I've seen this movie discussed before but never braved it as a rental.
