The Duke's News From The World Of Film

Hi Friends

Michael Moore, what a character. You may have heard about he's a communist insurrectionary what wants to kill your way of life or whatever, but did you know he also makes the films, and some of them are very good indeed?

Bowling For Columbine suffered from absence of point, but it was hugely enjoyable, and really, the folks behind Touching The Void, Spellbound, Capturing The Friedmans and all those other documentary-flicks what went ahead and made shitloads, they all have Moore to thank in some small way.

I would suggest a nice email, maybe one that says "Thank you Michael Moore. Really, you shouldn't have."

His latest bout of finger-pointing and comedy antics, Fahrenheit 9/11 went ahead and received standing ovaries or whatever at Cannes Film Festival, but also attracted plenty of the "controversy".

It's the "controversy" which serves as the focus for the new poster, which you can see HERE thanks to the folks at Chud. It has George W Bush (spoiler - he acts as the president) and Michael Moore holding hands, with the tagline - "Controversy? What controversy?"

The TRAILER takes the blueprint from the Action Cinema, complete with voiceover man talking about "From the corridors of power…To small town America" and so on, and has wacky malarkey like Moore driving an ice-cream truck around Washington reading out from The Patriots Act.

I'm guessing it'll do quite well, since folks who love Moore will go see it, and folks who hate him will go see it twice, so as they can get all the bits they need for to write an online critique about Michael Moore Is A Lying Motherfucker and so on.

The other trailer what pricked The Duke's attention, is over at MTV.com in the form of The Trailer For Exorcist : The Beginning.

After throwing Paul Schrader off the job, along with his complete film, the producers went ahead and brought in Renny Harlin for to basically remake the whole affair.

Schrader's version is, however, going to be released on DVD, so we can see why those studio cats hated the hell out of it. The general consensus seems to be that Schrader's film was too light on the gore and / or scares, and concentrated more on being a "character" piece.

From the looks of the trailer, Harlin's gone ahead and thrown in a load of the "jump" moments, like when a woman screams and then a mirror breaks. I'm guessing Schrader should have broke some mirrors, maybe he would still have his job.

Ironic, I guess, that it's the guy who breaks the mirrors that gets the good luck for a change.

I love the whole Aliens saga, including the two lackluster ones, but this Aliens Vs. Predator looks just stupid. Well, if anything, it gives Todd McFarlane an excuse to come with some more amazing new alien figures. Maybe I'll just watch my Quadrilogy box again instead of seeing the movie . . .

Over at moviepoopshoot.com (the site which was created for "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" and has gone on to become a real web site) they have both the trailer for Moore's new flick, but also a trailer for something called "Michael Moore Hates America", where some self-promoting guy tries to do to Mike what Mike has done to others. However, how much mileage will you get out of attacking Mike? The Fascist Party of 'Murrica already hate him, so you're just preaching to the choir, the people who actually buy tickets and DVDs for Mike's projects won't even look at it.

Maybe he should have done an expose on how working at MacDonald's isn't so bad once you get used to it.
