Ex-Smiths man shows his classy nature

CMU reports the following on a recent outburst by Morrissey.

Morrissey might have to watch his back when he returns to his LA home - he seems to have pissed off a fair few Americans with a throw away remark during a gig in Dublin at the weekend. On hearing the news that Ronald Reagan had died, the singer alerted his audience of the news adding he wished it was President Bush who had died instead.

The Manchester Evening News reported on the comments at the start of the week and says its online edition has since been swamped with protests hitting out at Morrissey's sentiments, 90% from Americans.

Marty's band, Growing Old Disgracefully, can be found at: Disgraceful Music. His Cthulhu tales can be found at Temple of Dagon.

Why on earth would anyone who finds the concept of a right-wing leader dying be surprised by the words of someone who called for Thatcher to have her head chopped off?

That's easy for you to say.

Good old Morrissey. Always inciting controversy. The irony, man. One day he's being attacked for being obviously a right-wing nazi and the next he's being attacked for being obviously a left-wing militant.
Don't make a lick of sense.
Morrissey, The Duke still loves you.
And "Margaret On The Guilitine" was a great song.

I just keep thinking "The World is full of Crashing Bores" and I believe that means it is full of boring internet posts too. This is non-news reported days ago. Why re-hash the humdrum and predictable? As it was put impeccably:

"Why on earth would anyone who finds the concept of a right-wing leader dying be surprised by the words of someone who called for Thatcher to have her head chopped off?"

(And I am keeping all my Moz/Smiths CDs because I still think he's oftentimes nothing short of brilliant.)

<3 @ morrissey even is he is a prick sometimes. He's fuckin' brilliant!

Must agree. Long live Moz!

In the interest of fairness, I would like to hear what Maggie and Bush have to say about Morrissey.

What? Oh, they've never heard of him.

#8 — June 14, 2004 @ 09:43AM — Ms. Tek [URL]

Well, considering that Bush cannot use, much less pronounce half of the English language correctly, that isn't saying much.

can't ya just hear pres. bush at a press conference...

"...i am human and i need to be loved...just like everybody else does..."

I believe the president would also reject the apocalyptic gloom of "Every Day Is Like Sunday," which makes for a great song but rather fatalistic policy.

Am I the only person who thinks Morrisey and the Smiths are ridiculously overrated? Possibly even the most overrated band of all time?

#12 — June 14, 2004 @ 13:10PM — Andrew Ian Dodge [URL]

Nope Tim, I agree with you. I always thought Marr was decent guitarist but most of stuff done by the Smiths was pants. Morrissey's post Smiths stuff, now that he doesnt have Marr to rein him in, is even more self indulgent crap.

#13 — June 14, 2004 @ 13:11PM — Mark Saleski [URL]

i bet you're not. outside of 'How Soon Is Now', there's nothing else there for me.

(that's just me though)

I agree with Robert E Smith of The Cure.

In an interview in The Guardian on Saturday, he advanced his theory that The Smiths' influence is vastly exaggerated because a significant number of influential media people are hardcore Smiths fans.

Everyone is allowed to their opinion, and I am sticking with Morrissey he is a Brilliant artist, amazing lyrics!!!!! With wonderful opinions that I am sure alot of us agree with !!

I think Robert Smith is spot on.This music for people nostalgic for their student bedsit days. The most overrated aspect of Morrisey/Smiths is the lyrics which are twee and banal. Johnny Marr is brilliant, Morrissey is the original king with no clothes.
