The Mercury

This is a detailed well written article. The jury took 40 minutes to deliberate and render the verdict. While this might seem unusual, it is becoming a common occurrence across the country. Only a tiny fraction of cases of this type every make it to a jury. Most perpetrators plead out. It is getting clear that citizens are not willing to stand for this kind of behavior in their community.

"I think your average citizen, your average juror, is so repulsed by pedophiles plying their trade over the Internet that they are pleased as can be that we're willing to do something about it and are going to back us up," District Attorney Bruce L. Castor Jr. said. "It confirms that the public is behind our efforts."

"By virtue of the quick verdict they returned, I think they emphatically agree that this type of behavior is not going to be tolerated in Montgomery County," said Assistant District Attorney Todd Stephens, who prosecuted Miller.

"In order for the entrapment defense to be of value, the defendant has to show that the police enticed him to engage in criminal conduct that he otherwise would not have done. I do not think the entrapment defense will go anywhere with a Montgomery County judge or a jury because the detectives who do this are taught how to avoid entrapping people who otherwise don't have a propensity for this sort of thing," Castor said.
