So, everyone's all excited that SAMMY HAGAR is back in the VAN HALEN fold, but what's become of GARY CHERONE? The much-maligned singer's work on 1998's Van Halen III has caused much controversy among Van Halen fans and critics alike, earning Cherone the unofficial title of Worst Van Halen Singer Ever. But life goes on for Cherone, and while fans won't see him when Van Halen play Toronto's Air Canada Centre on July 3, Torontonians can catch him next week at a special charity event. Cherone has been added to the already illustrious line-up for this year's White Ribbon Concert. The concert, now in its seventh year, is spearheaded by THE TEA PARTY's Jeff Martin in an effort to raise awareness about violence against women. Each year, Martin and his buddies jump in front of a house band and bang off some cover songs, all in the name of raising some cash for the White Ribbon organization. Cherone will be sharing the stage with the likes of THE TREWS, SNOW, members of BILLY TALENT, JEFF HEALEY, TODD KERNS and a few other rock star-types. Part of the fun of White Ribbon is guessing what covers will be performed. Past, er, gems have included DAVID USHER's take on SOPHIE B. HAWKINS' 'Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover', EDWIN's rendition of U2's 'One' and DAMHNAIT DOYLE and Martin's duet of FLEETWOOD MAC's 'Go Your Own Way'. As we've previously mentioned, the White Ribbon Concert will also feature a silent auction, where patrons can bid on hot prizes like an autographed copy of JANET JACKSON's Damita Jo album, a pair of Leafs tickets, and a family pack of Chuck Taylor shoes. The White Ribbon Concert will take place on June 8th at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto. Tickets for the show are available for $25 through all Ticketmaster outlets. VIP tickets (which include food, drinks and access to the stars) are going for $100 and can be purchased through www.whiteribbon.com. The concert is an all-ages event, but the VIP room is only open to those 19 or older.

Gary managed to ruin two great bands when he joined Van Halen. The only way anyone will really care about this guy again (as a rocker) is if a reformed Extreme tour and record.

It good to see he is doing something useful for a very good cause however.
