The Duke's Thoughts On Big Brother 5 - Week One
Published June 05, 2004
Anyway, Kitten received another warning, and so an eviction was announced. Who would it be? Personally, I assumed they would throw out Ahmed, even though I really like him, simply because he is the least "character"-type of them all so far. He seems a bit dull at times, and so this would have been the perfect opportunity for the telly bosses to fling him out, and then blame it on Kitten, so Kitten is the subject of much scorn, and the boring fella gets thrown out.
I gotta say, I really like Kitten. She was cringe-worthy at times, and her adolescent sloganeering really makes one feel a little embarrassed to belong to the "left". It's like, the next time I have a copy of The Socialist Worker in my hand in the street, are folks gonna be thinking I'm like her? That I just wanna shout about fuck this and so on and rules suck and revolution!
But on the other hand, there was a genuine sadness in her eyes a lot of the time. She appeared genuinely sorry for many of the idiotic shenanigans she was getting up to. After being the first person ever to be booed on their way into the house, the first thing she did once inside was to chew her lip and then worry about how much of a prick she just made of herself.
And she does really know her stuff. She debates with raw intelligence any subject from immigration laws to lesbian politics, and it's only when her emotions get the better of her that she retreats towards empty "fight the power" ranting.
It's a bit ironic, really, that this vehement believer in the left, the politics of the rationale, is in possession of personality traits more akin to the right, the politics of the emotions.
But I felt really sorry for her. She was trying to adapt, and yet found herself unable to control the urge to try and break a microphone or two, or rip weird dildo-shaped ornaments off the walls. She would cry in the diary room and talk about how she would try and do better tomorrow.
Like when The Duke used to wake and think about the horrific nonsense he had got up to a few hours earlier, and how full of guilt and remorse I felt. The Duke was full of heartfelt apologies, is what. But of course, it just happened all over again.
But Kitten was a sure-fire ratings grabber.
Tonight, when the housemate to be evicted was revealed, I was somewhat shocked that it was not Ahmed, nor Marco, nor Emma, but, in fact… Kitten.
Maybe the channel four folks realised that she was actually quite fragile, and may not be able to take it much longer. Maybe it was an act of humanity on their part. Or maybe they just didn't want her shitting in the swimming pool or something.

Duker, you have made more real impact more quickly than virtualy any other Blogcritics - the "award" is very well deserved. Thanks!
Bob, i'm afraid not. When i confessed my new shame to the good folks at www.derrenbrownforum.com i was greeted with an image of a hangmans rope.
I probably would've considered it, but, y'know, there was live coverage on at the time, so...
Eric, you make The Duke blush is what.
Thank you :)
