Interview with Travis Morrison

[travis morrison] Well, do remember that the Plan actually existed for five years with almost NO fan base. I know all too well what it's like to be realizing your ideas for the pleasure of almost no one besides yourself and your mates, so I really don't think about stuff like that. I think of the later success of the Plan as some kind of comical mirage and I am waiting to be kicked out of the business any day now, so I plan on doing everything like it's my last bizarre gesture. Which is probably the only way to go anyways!

[Craig] When writing this new material, did you have any specific goals that you wanted to achieve? Were you intent on creating a certain sound for yourself? Did you want to separate yourself from the D-Plan material? Or were you just trying to do what came to you naturally?

[travis morrison] Naturally. I can't really hold all those thoughts in my head. That just is too complicated a set of values for making a record.

[Craig] Did you have any collaboration either in jam sessions or in the studio, or did the songs just progress through your own writing process?

[travis morrison] Chris Walla and I arranged them, I wrote them. Some of the tracks were realized by Chris, mostly--he is a real tone wizard. What a great guy to work with. Some of them were mostly my arrangements. One or two were all mine.

[Craig] Do you have any final comments about the new material?

[travis morrison] It's awesome!

[Craig] Ok, now the stuff that everyone wants to know.

Top Five Albums of the last year or so?

[travis morrison]
Basement Jaxx
Xiu Xiu
Joanna Newsom
Jay-Z
John Vanderslice

Most addictive song?

[travis morrison]
Toxic by Britney Spears

Biggest guilty pleasure

[travis morrison] Don't do 'em--if I like it, I like it, and everyone else can fuck off.

Worst moment

[travis morrison] I had several consecutive worst moments while trying to reestablish myself as a Virginia driver. One of the 9/11 terrorists had a fake VA license, so now you have to bring an incredibly particular set of documents to prove that you are, indeed, for lovers. At one point, my bank statement got nixed because it didn't say it was from a bank--"it says USAA SVGS BNK."

Best moment

[travis morrison] getting that ruling at the DMV overturned by the manager.
