As predicted...Darkness go for Mutt Lange

CMU reports:

The Darkness have confirmed they will be working with veteran rock producer Robert 'Mutt' Lange on the follow up to the hugely successful 'Permission to Land'. Lange's rock credentials include having worked with AC/DC, Def Leppard and, erm, Foreigner.

Its good to see that The Darkness have done the logical thing and gone for a hard rock heavyweight like Mutt. I am proud to say I suggested this when I reviewed Permission to Land. Their manager knows of me via a mutual friend...hrm...it coulda happened!

Marty's band, Growing Old Disgracefully, can be found at: Disgraceful Music. His Cthulhu tales can be found at Temple of Dagon.

Great ears, dude! And they might have listened to you - I think Bush listens to me!

Oh great! Shania Twain's husband, the guy who brought us Billy Ocean's "Get out of my dreams, get into my car" and Bryan Adams "Everything I Do(I Do It For You)! He's also worked with Loverboy, Huey Lewis and the News and even Michael Bolton! His biggest recent hits have been for his wife, the Backstreet Boys and Celine Dion! I love Permission to Land and the simple rockin' asthetic it brought back to pop music but working with Mutt Lange could be career suicide for them. The people who take them seriously will lose faith and the people who think they are a joke and a rip-off band will be confirmed after they work with one of the slickest, soulless producers around.

it's a good match.

on my first listen through Permission i was struck by the AC/DC similarities.

i think mutt will just help them crank up the sonic crunch.

I most humbly disagree with you 100%.

that's ok, tons 'o folks disagree with me about music.

it doesn't matter anyway. people loved Permmission To Land and will hate whatever comes next, simply because it'll be perceived as the sophomore record.

Actually Mark don't think so. At least in the UK, Permission to London got kudos from both the poppers and the rockers. Their December gig at Brixton was attended by all sorts of people.

I think it is wise from them to go the hard-rock cred route with their second LP. They will probably lose the fringe of popsters anyway as they tend to be fickle. Rock fans tend to be more loyal and will stick with em' if they manage to produce a sophmore effort with more rock cred.

The Darkness are a corny, wannabe rock band. Check out a real rock band SPLITSENSE at WWW.GARAGEBAND.COM or at www.SPLITSENSE.COM :)
