Phillies Predictions

Wagner, while already blowing one save this season(a one run lead going into the inning and gave up a home run), won't blow too many. Assuming he gets enough chances, he should be close to the lead in NL for saves. The easiest way to score off of him will be to hit home runs, assuming you can see the ball enough to swing at it.

Bank One Ballpark
This season brings Philly to a new home, and reports so far are that it's a beauty. The park will bring in fans, even if Philly continues to struggle. The season is early, but so far it looks like the ball flies out of the park more-so than most. In the heat, this will get magnified. This will please the fans, and each home team home run will "ring the bell," a large outline replica of the Liberty Bell that swings while a gong sounds.

Larry Bowa
Bowa has a personality that gets on reporters and players nerves. This is understandable. Many sports writers have predicted that Bowa will get the axe this season if the team doesn't perform. I think this is highly unlikely and will only be used as a last ditch effort. Yes, there are other people in the organization who could manage the Phillies whom the reporters and players might like better, but I think that so far the organization thinks that Bowa has done well and will loyally stick by him.

Everything Else
Philly has to be able to beat Florida to have a good chance at the Wild Card, let alone first spot in the NL East. They have the talent to do it, but Florida has the mental edge after all of last year and this year winning 6 out of 6 games versus them, including some heartbreakers. The next time the two teams meet, if Philly can win, expect them to go on a major win streak.

The Philly fans are some of the best in baseball. They are also some of the best boo-ers baseball. If Philly does well, they will become a major element in home games, making it tough on the other teams. If Philly goes on a bad streak, however, the echoing boos will make the team that much more self consious.

It's a year that can go either way. After the 76's season and the Eagles' playoff woes, a good season will be like a fresh ocean breeze, healing wounds and poisonous thoughts. If it turns out to be just another season, the malice will spike.
