Headcount: Voter Registration for Jammers
Published April 28, 2004
Our Mac Diva just signed up with Rock the Vote via Ben and Jerry's, pledged to vote on November 2 and to encourage five friends to do the same, which she has now done via blog post.
Another organization, HeadCount, which sounds like a group of highly motivateed dopers (an oxymoron you say? it would appear not), is out to registed live music fans as voters:
- HeadCount, an organization dedicated to raising voter participation among live music fans, has announced a contest that will drive voter registration efforts by partnering with Bonnaroo, the largest annual music festival in America. Participants qualify to enter by registering five (5) eligible people to vote. A grand prize winner, chosen at random, will receive a pair of VIP tickets to the 2004 Bonnaroo Music Festival (June 11-13 in Manchester, TN) and will have an opportunity to meet select HeadCount affiliated artists.
HeadCount artists scheduled to appear at Bonnaroo include: The Dead, Primus, Gov't Mule, Galactic, moe., String Cheese Incident, Leftover Salmon, and Yonder Mountain String Band.
This truly unique and original contest promises to involve thousands of music fans in a nationwide voter registration effort. To enter the contest, visit headcount.org, read the contest rules and print out multiple voter registration forms. Then just grab a pen and a clipboard, register people to vote, and have a chance to win. Contestants may improve their chances by registering even more voters and submitting multiple entries, and the person who submits the largest number of completed voter registrations will automatically win two free tickets to Bonnaroo. Five (5) runners-up will receive a compact disc signed by a HeadCount artist of their preference and twenty (20) runners-up will receive a complimentary one-year subscription to Relix Magazine.
