Alias Garners a New Fan - Me

As I understand it, though, the stories have become somewhat less complex with time in an attempt to boost viewing figures. The great shame is that I am one of the guilty parties - my early dismissal of the show was precisely because of the reason I now have such great respect for it. Its sheer complexity.

Many of us get angry at what we perceive as TV's attempt to patronise us, and resent the symplification of storylines. The sad truth is, though, that often it is our actions that justify these moves on the part of broadcasters. They are, after all, out to make money - and why invest money in a complex drama with minimal viewing figures when you can make a cheap reality show that people can dip in and out of without any problems?

It's also true, though, that it's somewhat of a chicken and egg situation: if we're fed TV junk food, then it's going to be much more difficult to get us to eat our vegetables when they are given airtime.

The solution is difficult to find but I know one thing for sure: next time there's a series which gains critical acclaim, but which I find a bit confusing at first, I'm gonna stick with it.

Ah, but along with my failure to discover "Alias" quickly enough, I also failed to discover Blogcritics quickly enough. I am but a recent convert :)

Anyway, my opinion's way more important than anyone else's, surely? :)

Thanks for reading and for comment.
Cheers,
Claire

Thanks Claire, great to see you back with us. Very good review and your opinion is the one that matters most (smile).

Sorry, TDavid, I hadn't seen your review when I wrote mine.

Welcome, Claire, to the Alias-watching Family.

There are only two more episodes in season three -- and they look pretty darned interesting!

What, you mean now that Sloane has revealed himself as a totally evil bastard (well, okay, he gets points for injecting himself with that goo first, but it was the intent), and getting married really sucks since if your wife doesn't shoot you in the head, she gets her Eurotrash boyfriend to torture you with a cattle prod?

Interesting? How about a compulsive obsession?

I've stayed away from watching Alias on TV since I didn't get into in time for the rollout of season 3. I totally will be buying it when it hits DVD.

I have been catching 24 though an episode at a time. There is something better about watching it on DVD where you can go through it in a marathon session vs. piecemeal a week at a time. I'm sure this isn't what the advertisers want to hear though lol.
