More Star Trek (and general Sci Fi!)

The other Star Trek post brought up some good discussion. It's always great to find new Star Trek (Sci-fi) fans and introduce new ones. I'm going to rattle off a few sites that might be worth your time to check out if you are a fan of Star Trek or ar just curious about some seriously good Sci-Fi.
First off, there seems to be two major camps in the Star Trek fan world. Those who the that the first Star Trek series with Shatner is the be all and end all of all Trek. The rese of the series loose what it means to "be" Trek. The other side appreciates what got it all started but think that with advancement in technology and larger budgets, the newer versions are superior. Some people really do miss the old Trek and have taken upon themselves to fill that void. Introducing the "fan flick".
There are two Star Trek sites that come to mind. The first is 5yearmission.. 5 year mission has the better acting and the sets were good and the costuming was better but the storyline just didn't pull me in. It just didn't feel like the Star Trek world to me. I found that I wanted to beat the hell out of all the actors. Kick, Spock, Bones... they were all forced I felt. They didn't feel anything like the original characters and the humor wasn't even funny. Still, the effort that went into this was great.
The next site is Starship Exeter. Starship Exeter is NOT the Enterprise but is instead a ship that is around at the same time as the orginal Enterprise crew (Cpt. Kirk and company). Now the acting in this one was not that great and some of the costumes sucked but the story felt more Trek. In general, it felt more like Trek. The spirit seemed more there.

I liked Babylon 5 and thought the show ended well and naturally. I think one of the great advantages that B5 has had over other shows is that all five years of the show were mapped out, at least roughly, ahead of time.
I agree with Ms. Tek however that Farscape DEFINES scifi today. You want truly imaginative aliens, not just people with face paint and nose ridges? Farscape!
From the concept of a living ship in space to truly alien worlds and landscapes, Farscape does the best job of any series I've seen. Even the name, "Farscape," speaks of the difference between this show and others.
Hopefully this upcoming two-hour Farscape special will not be the last.
In the here and now, however, I'm a big proponent of Stargate SG-1. Yes, it has its formulaic elements, but I think the show has really had some golden moments and I think Season 7 was excellent, with the finale leaving viewers with good resolutions to certain issues but also making us wonder what is next.
Furthermore, in Season 7 we really begin to see the VALUE of the Stargate in terms of human advancement. Earth has its first real Starship, the "Prometheus," as well as fighters to help defend the planet. I like the fact that you can see a merging of the different technologies that were picked up in other episodes, instead of all of it just dropping out of existence after the episode.
