Bill Hicks used to say that if any artist got into advertising, then they immediately forfeit any credibility. There's something of a ring of truth to all that. How can these things be art when they're just tryin to hock us a pair of overpriced jeans, even if they do run down a photocopier? Thing is, though, if a motherfucker's gonna get pedantic and shit, then you'd have to throw out pretty much 90% of your DVD collection, starting with that Ridley Scott fool and going all the way to the Se7en's and the Being John Malcoviches.

I got a feeling there's more to this Cunningham fool than just the whoring, though. That imagery is just too original, those ideas too freakifying and so on, to be the work of a soulless hack. I recommend this fool is what I'm saying. I mean come on, he did the robot designs for AI. If Spielberg says he's OK, who the hell is The Duke or, indeed, you lot, to be arguing?

The DVD is packaged with a fairly intensive booklet that features interviews with Cunningham regarding his monstrosities, and a few sketches and stuff. This is where the dementia really comes in, is in these drawings. If you never saw a possibly-anatomically-correct vagina with feet and skulls tied to it, and some bloke screwing it from off in the distance, then, well, you have now.

Even though this thing is rated 15 in the UK, there's some seriously pornographic doodles in that little black book, so, y'know, be careful and all that hoopla.

The installation by the name of Monkey Drummer, by the way, is one of the most pleasant surprises The Duke has had in the last hour or so. It was fucking delightful is what it was.
