Suge Knight released
Published April 26, 2004
With so many rappers being jailed of late, at least there's one spare bed in the hip hop prison this week. Death Row boss Suge Knight was released from Mule Creek State Prison in California on Thursday after serving a ten month sentence for parole violation. As previously reported, he was jailed last year when he was accused of punching a parking attendant while on parole, despite his lawyers providing several witnesses who testified Knight was not involved in the fight.
Knight spent the weekend with his family, and is due back in the Beverly Hills office of his music empire today. Among the projects he will be managing during his first weeks of freedom is a charity compilation in aid of the families of American soldiers currently in Iraq. Knight announced his intentions to create the charity album last week, explaining: "I'm not taking any kind of political stance on the war. However, with so many soldiers now in Iraq for more than a year, I'm concerned about the families they've left behind. So many of them are suffering, not only emotionally but also financially."
