Emery - The Weak's End

Emery is a band that just fell onto my plate out of nowhere. My first reaction is that there aren't a whole lot of new things going on here. Little bit of singing, and a little bit of screaming. I don't want to draw comparisons in style, but the singer sounds a little bit like Stephan Jenkins of Third Eye Blind. When they are screaming, they sound like something out of the Refused catalogue. There are six members in this band, which transplanted from South Carolina to Seattle in order to pursue their music careers. Three guys sing. Three play guitar. I can only imagine how loud this band is going to be live with that many amplifiers onstage.

Comparisons aside, Emery has put together a decent debut album, "The Weak's End." It might not set the world on fire, but it has the emotion and intensity necessary to give it some replay value. My favorite track on the album is "By All Accounts (Today Was a Disaster)." It has the nicest harmonies and does the best job of integrating the singing and screaming. It starts out slowly before the deliberate backbeat comes in. Then the three part harmonies take over for the verse and the beautiful chorus. The song continues to rise and fall in its various movements before building into the huge finish.

The album is ten tracks with very little filler. Overall, I enjoyed it, but I am not sure that enough people will get to hear an album like this. It isn't really doing enough of a different thing to separate Emery from the rest of the pack of bands. A band like this will need to tour incessantly and be rock solid on stage.

They are currently on tour with The Beautiful Mistake and their debut album The Weak's End is available at Amazon and other online retailers.

This is a great album that anyone can enjoy. Personally, I'm more of a fan of the Hardcore/Metal stuff, but when I heard this I was intantly impressed with the complex harmonies mixed with the overlapping of singing and screaming. It sounds beautiful when they do that. Their newest album, "The Question" iseven better than this one, so you all should go grab a copy because you're missing out! Peace

Thanks for commenting Dan. I like this much more than I do their second album. It is ok, but just not nearly as good as this debut.
