Macy Gray gets it up like Jebus on Easter morning
Published April 11, 2004
Macy Gray rates as the hottest, sexiest chick in the music business. With Sinead O'Connor officially retired, Macy has no real competition. Holy Jumpin' Jebus on Easter morning, but Macy Gray could make a dead man get up and walk.
She has a few songs that are directly sexual, notably a couple on her first album. "Sex-O-Matic Venus Freak" cuts a funky pop groove that Sly or even Prince would have been proud to claim. It even has an honest to God bridge.
"Caligula" probably constitutes her sleaziest, most positively morally decadent rutting groove, however. Yeah, it's that good. The organ part has a lot to do with getting it good and greasy.
"Hush the neighbors hear you moanin and groanin
But I just can't help it 'specially when we been bonin'"
Even when she's talking about sex, though, she's onto bigger things than the minor mechanical act. Unlike the emotionless and animalistic descriptions of Missy Elliott working it, or Janet Jackson at the Superbowl, Macy's always after some deeper emotional resonance ie soul. Frankly, I don't care that Missy Elliott shaves her cha-cha. I didn't need to know.
Even while she's talking about "bonin'" though, Macy's going on about fears that are being took away being with this guy, and missing those fears. There's a lot more going on than body parts. There are shades of emotional nuance.
Even in these most explicit songs she is singing about relationships. There is some kind of unique personal connection that results in her saying that "Every time you holler out my name you set me free."
The obviously sexually explicit songs are not the biggest turn ons in her work, though. Things closer to normal love song range really do the job. Oh, but "I Try" makes me nuts. It'll rate close to "Tracks of My Tears" musically- which is no small praise. If she came up with that velvet rasp, cooing "I try to say goodbye and I choke, I try to walk away and I stumble" in my ear, it'd be all over for me.

"intellectual praises..correction..and another thought..Macy can barely speak English..so please, shut up about this IQ nonsense. You like Macy and there's nothing not to like about her, but you clearly fill the need to explain why you like her as it seems it's out of your safe box to like Macy. Therefore, you go on a pathetic misguided journey comparing her to other artists you do not like when those comparisons are of no relevance in this post of yours. As usual, doing it in your own inimitable style of narrow mindedness and falsities galore.
Ms Smallson, your combination of ignorance, arrogance and rudeness has become tiresome. Your mother obviously didn't raise you right. You should not be disrespectful to your elders and betters. As Al role model Hannibal Lecter put it, you've been unspeakably rude.
I understand being young and full of yourself. However, even when I was 18 and knew everything, I did not speak in such a disrespectful manner to my peers, let alone anyone else.
Look, we all get it. You are a young Catholic girl who likes to fornicate. You've been very clear about this.
Apparently Madonna and Britney somehow give you license to disobey your religious beliefs, your church and your Savior with impunity, so you've got a lot of emotional investment. Great.
Do not, however, mistake that for meaning that either of these women are serious musicians. If you had any understanding of MUSIC, you'd certainly laugh at Britney. She may be a great person- I don't know. She certainly has drive and ambition. But she wouldn't know music if it bit her in the ass.
At some point, that is just an objective truth. It is not mere opinion, but FACT. To put it extremely gently, Britney Spears is not a serious musician.
That said, I will have to give you one point: I never said much here about Macy's voice. This is odd, as that is the most specifically arousing aspect of her.
That unique whispery rasp really does it for me. She's actually an OUTSTANDING singer. She wouldn't do well in opera, with those particular technical requirements. She can, however, carry a tune very well.
More importantly, she knows how to work the voice. She has ways of phrasing things, saying it JUST SO.
Also, if you don't see the difference between the tenor of Missy Elliot's low level rutting "Work It" and the spiritual release of "Sex-O-Matic Venus Freak," then you are really not getting Macy. Pay attention. I just explained this.
If you'd pay attention to these posts, you might start getting some clues about how to understand music, but you're too busy looking for opportunities to bad mouth older, more educated and experienced people.
What do you think you accomplish with this continuing nonsense?
What has a tiny brain, a big mouth and an opinion nobody cares about? Al Barger. This response to my post is obviously a result of triumph of sugar over diabetes. Funny. Being attacked by you Al Barger is like being savaged by a dead sheep. Damn the house rules, huh? You don't have to tell me twise;)
My poor mother:) Don't blame her. I think she did her best. I just happen to be old enough now to live my life irrespective of whatever the lady might have instilled in me in my youth. You, on the other hand are clearly a result of sexual intercourse b/w siblings. I won't blame your mother. The smartest thing she did was to abandon you. You are slander on her womb. A mental midget with the IQ of a fence post. The best part of you ran down your mother's legs.
Al, you deserve no respect. Age does not immediately demand respect. You've got to earn it. Me, ignorant? YOUR ignorance is encyclopedic. I am arrogant towards you because I consider you inferior. The only thing that has sustained me on this board is the consciousness of your immense inferiority and as you have noticed, it is a feeling I have cultivated. Everytime, I read your posts, my superiority complex goes up a million volts.
Correction-I don't like to fornicate..I LOVE to fornicate. Nobody gives me license to do anything. I disobey my beliefs on my own. The blame, Mr Barger, is all on me. Make no mistake about it.
Mr Barger, YOU wouldn't know MUSIC, TRUTH, REALITY, LIFE, if they all sat on your hick face. Who are you to talk? You have Van Gogh's ear for music..lol.. I mean, come on!I consider both M and Brit serious musicians.... I mean, what do u mean by serious?! The level of seriousness you wish to allocate to both is up to you. Like I've said, you know nothing about anything. I may be the only one rude enough:) to point it out to you.
The only FACT in all this, is that you are a brain-damaged old vulture who sits in senile dementia with a gangrene heart and a rotting tiny brain.
You have shown yourself up, conceding the point about Macy's voice. If Britney had that voice you would be talking about how she sounds like a strangled cat. Now, its whispery and raspy..LOL. Go sell crazy someplace else.
Your feeble attempt at differentiating Macy and Missy is pathetic. Me? Not get Macy? HA! I was listening to Macy before you woke up and realised black people were now allowed to sing and had record deals. Pull the other one hickory duck.
I learn nothing from ANY of your posts, Al. I only notice the soporific ramblings of a knave with medula oblaganta deficiencies. YOU need to leave the trailer and wander out into the world. There's so much out there for you to see and learn. Remember. A fool at your age is a fool forever. More educated? I am not sure you have any academic qualifications. If you are more educated than me, then you have had more years on earth to achieve that. But, if you do not know that whatever is worth knowing can not be taught, then like I have said, you know nothing. A desk and a blackboard in the centre of a trailer park is not an academic institution.
Clearly, nature, not content with denying you the ability to think, has endowed you with the ability to write. Keep on subtractibg from the sum of human knowledge. Your opinions on me or any matter are as useless as pulled tooth.
correction .. twise=twice .. etc
Sanrda, you are rude and know nothing about music, but that IS the best white trash rant I've seen in a while.
...And what makes it even better, is that I am NOT white...LOL. Not a rant:) It's the best and most accurate multi racial characterisation of a blogger:) Or as you may prefer to call it..a black rant.
If you two keep going on about Macy Gray, Al is going to be shooting air out of his dick when he comes.

Is it impossible for you to write a glowing tribute to Macy Gray without insulting anybody else? You clearly like Macy. Hey, I love Macy. Own every Album. But, you are writing a tribute to Macy or a review of whatever. Who knows what the purpose of this Article is?! However, it's about Macy and somehow you find a way to compare her IQ to Britney's? Likening Britney to a porn star along the way? Is that necessary? Do you not see you have a problem?
Then you claim to see the subtleties in her sex songs compared to that of Missy or Janet..LOL. You never cease to amuse me. There is absolutely no difference b/w Macy and Missy as far as sexual lyrics go. As far as Janet goes, the difference is, Janet sings hers in a breathy voice and Macy does not because she can't. Oh, that's another thing. I see no mention of Macy's voice here.
Macy's voice technically is bad and she would even be thrown out of pop idol. But she is unique and that's what makes her special and Macy. You would think a person like you who runs around telling us who can sing and who can't and who has vocal ability and who hasn't will acknowledge that this singer you happen to like is not what anyone would call technically sound in the vocal department. I have always paid no interest to people with 8 octaves so it was never an issue for me. If you can carry a tune and sing with the passion and emotion that song requires, it's all good. Macy screeching in "I try" was right up my street. Singing like she felt it. I don't need a singer to show me her whole vocal range because most times it's irrelevant. BUT you have paraded yourself as one who puts high price in that..and yet here you are, YET AGAIN, contradicting your self.
By the way,,do you have proof of either Macy or Britney's IQ? This is ofcourse just your own opinion which as usual has nothing to do with reality but more to do with warped state of mind. Macy smokes weed like the rest of us eat food. I'm not sure what memory banks you are counting on when you offer her all these intellectual praise. Again, you have no basis for insulting Britney here.
I don't know when you started this new interest in reviewing musicians or music but I have said it before and I will say it again. Your opinions are pathetic. You are out of your depth and would be out of your depth in a car park puddle. I don't know what it is you are good at, but, PLEASE..Find it and STICK TO IT.
