Are you gripped?

Grip, Inc
(SPV)

Dave Lombardo, much hailed former Slayer drummer, has returned with his Grip, Inc project. The last outting for the band was 5 years ago, and time has not been that kind to the project. That is not to say that Incorporated is a bad CD (esp. considering the fact you get two videos and a 'Making of" as extras), it is just not that special. The band produce music more akin to Metallica than Slayer, there is more melody (esp on Spanish influenced 'Enemy Mind') here than on anything by Lombardo's previous band. I must confess to enjoying '(Build to) Resist' which features the talent of one of the Apocalyptica boys. And it would be unfair to say this anything but far superior to the recent output by Metallica. Still, one does keep expecting a bit more of something on this CD. It really does not jump out and leave a mark, even after multiple listens. It will fill a temporary void for Metallica-esque metal but I doubt you will be listening to this a year from now. You would expect a bit more after 5 years. We all know Lombardo is an awesome drummer and very talented; a pity he didn't show a bit more on here.

Rating: 3.5/5
