Stratovarius' swansong?

Elements Pt 2
Stratovarius
(Nuclear Blast)

Considering recent developments, this just might be the last we see from this band. If this is to be the case, they could have chosen a lot worse than end on such a good note. EP2 is a great collection of melodic power metal, nine tracks of decent rock. While Ep2 will not exactly break any new ground for the genre, it is a competent affair that contains no turkeys and trots along rather well. It is no surprise that it is selling well. From the opening track 'Alpha & Omega' through the beautiful 'Luminous' to the final notes of 'Liberty' you will hear some class melodic metal. Better yet, this CD gets better with many listens. If Timo does decide to continue, now with a female singer, this will nicely wrap up the current phase of this popular band.

Rating: 4/5
