Rebecca DeMornay Joins The Practice Spin-Off

David E. Kelley brings in another big name for his new legal drama. Scheduled for a fall debut, the as-yet-unnamed show is already set to star the inimitable James Spader, sci-fi icon William Shatner, and original Tomb Raider model Rhona Mitra.

Today, it was announced that film star Rebecca DeMornay will also be joining the cast in the role original intended for British actress Fay Masterson. DeMornay is best known for her roles in the 1983 Tom Cruise vehicle Risky Business and the dark thriller The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.

DeMornay will debut her character in the closing episodes of The Practice this season before making the transition to the new show with the surviving cast later this year.

The cast for Kelley's new foray is shaping up to be potential one of the best in prime time. With The Practice shuttering its doors and Boston Public canceled mid-season back in January, the celebrated series creator has a lot riding on the success of this show. While he certainly has the talent lined up, it will be up to Kelley and his team of writers to make the show a success. Judging by the high note The Practice appears poised to go out on, things are headed in the right direction.
