Rapper pleads guilty
Published April 08, 2004
Talking of rappers in jail, Beanie Sigel's legal people yesterday told
reporters their client will plead guilty to federal drug and weapons charges
today. The plea relates to an incident in Apr 2002 when the rapper ditched his car while fleeing police. Officers found a loaded handgun and various illegal drugs in the vehicle. Legal people reckon by pleading guilty Sigel will get off with a three year jail sentence - whether his existing house arrest will be counted as part of that sentence is unclear. That said, he may well be in prison much longer depending on how two pending court cases go. Sigel is in court next week to face allegations he shot and seriously injured a man outside a bar last year and he is awaiting a trial date over allegations he beat up a 53-year old man in Jan 2003. Needless to say, even with the guilty plea today, Sigel's lawyers will remain quite busy for a while yet.
