Shallow Grave

Shallow Grave explores what happens when 3 roommates end up with a dead body and a lot of money. Released in 1995, the move stars a young Ewan Mcgregor, Christopher Eccleston (the new Doctor Who) and is the first feature film directed by Danny Boyle of Trainspotting, The Beach, and 28 Days Later fame..

Flilmed in Edinburgh and Glasgow, this black comedy tracks how each person ventures into their own worse character traits in trying to end up with the dead man's money. Be prepared for the trick ending.

Solidly acted and well directed, this is a great film to see if you want to see an offering from "over the pond". Unlike some other films featuring a Scottish cast, you will not need subtitles to understand the dialog. You may however need to look up a few bits of slang here and there.

For the most part, I am very impressed with the films that Danny Boyle has directed and this is no different. I might be a little partial to it because it features my second home, but even so, this is a film that anyone with a love of dark comedy or British movies will enjoy!

Ms. Tek,

A good film, but not on the level of Trainspotting. This man's greatest work was 28 Days Later. Anyway, a very good film.......But as good as his previous suff? Hmmmmmm, not sure.....

I would have to agree that 28 Days Later was awesome. Then gain, the Irish lead could get me to whip off my pants in 1 second flat. Trainspotting is on my personal top ten list. I still think that Shallow Grave is a really solid movie on all levels and that most people would enjoy it.

Trainspotting is the film that got Danny Boyle recognized. I would also say that is Ewan McGregor's best role so far (he does have a hard time with his Scottish Brogue. Then again, most of the Scots I know cannot keep in accent for long before slipping into Scots or a Scottish Accent). Transpotting is the movie that MADE Danny Boyle. I don't think it diminishes Shallow Grave in any way.

Agreed Ms. Tek. Shallow Grave is a fascinating film and gave a hint as to some of the great films to come. 28 Days Later is so different from the rest of his work, and yet it is utterly Danny Boyle. There's a thread that runs through all of his work, and Shallow Grave is a great place to start.....I haven't seen it in several years....

Did anyone notice the mistake on the 28 days later umd front cover? It says from the director of transpotting, unless danny boyle directed a film called transpotting i dont know? It would be quite interesting to watch a film about a group of people with note pads and pens looking out for crossed dressed men ha-ha!
