A Textbook For Police

I am a Criminal Justice minor. I'm not planning on being a cop, but a course on policing was (obviously) required.

For my current class, the only text required was the one advertised below. And let me tell you, this is not the textbook you want future police officers to be reading.

I could cite all the typographical errors, but that would be moot. The real problem with this book is its relentless spin on how police officers are cynical scum, and only new blood, in the form of "community" police officers, can possibly save the world from the current menace.

In this book, police are portrayed as racist, sexist, mindless bums who wander through their shifts looking for minorities to club senseless. And only new officers with CJ degrees can save America by truly empathizing with the "community" and using their discretion "wisely."

Even if this book was even-handed, it would still enrage me. It is the most boring, dull, sleep-inducing text I have ever encountered. People with insomnia should be prescribed this joke of a textbook.

And, before anyone asks, yes, I am getting an "A" in the class. But only through massive, possibly unhealthy, doses of caffeine.

You mean they're not? I used to jog and I had to carry ID in my sock because, guaranteed, some idiot cop would stop me asking for it.

Police are like anyone else: Some are scum, and the majority are decent people looking to do their job well. If you have been stopped by the police more than usual, I suspect the problem is with you. Or maybe they are all bigots?

I dunno. But I believe Occam's Razor applies...

I had long hair and a beard. I suppose that makes me a target. I should have a buzz cut like all the cops if I don't want trouble, huh?

I'm just not conforming hard enought to avoid police harrassment, am I?
