Johnny Rivers - Greatest Hits

Gone but not forgotten is this great rocker, whose distinctive voice graced the AM dial decades ago. He holds up very well today.

I mean, look at the songs on this CD:

Memphis
Maybelline
The Midnight Special
The Seventh Son
Where Have All The Flowers Gone
Secret Agent Man
The Poor Side Of Town
Baby, I Need Your Lovin'
The Tracks Of My Tears
Rockin' Pneumonia And The Boogie Woogie Flu

Where's the weak song? I don't see it. Costs $6.98 at amazon. Excellent investment. His haunting rendition of "Poor Side Of Town" is worth the price of the CD all by itself.

Lest anyone think Johnny is gone as in dead, rest assured that he's alive and singing.

I love "Secret Agent Man" and "Rockin' Pneumonia" - all the other songs are covers of songs done better elsewhere: Chuck Berry, Motown, etc. Great voice though.

Sonnny, Al Wilson covered it, but you are right, "Poor Side of Town" is his. I should have been more precise, sorry.

They really should have include "Mountain of Love". My favorite.

eric,

hell, i wasn't correctin ya; i was just wondering. cos if it was a cover, i didnt know who did it before him.

i really only love 2 johnny songs, too. secret agent man, like yourself, and the poor side of town. i looked up 'poor side' and see composing credit given to rivers & lou adler.

Sonny, no prob, you were right. Upon further reflection I like his "Memphis" as well as Chuck's. I like Johnny, wasn't trying to put him down, he was just mostly a covers guy. And I love his "Rockin' Pneumonia" even better than the Huey Piano Smith original.

Johnny Rivers??? You must be kidding!
Yeah, those were all great hits - BY OTHER
PEOPLE! (Except the crappy Secret Agent Man) All those cover hits were vastly inferior to the originals. Go listen to Chuck Berry, The Four Tops, Smokey and the Miracles - Rivers was a music biz hack who got lucky.
