Virus Interruptus
Published March 03, 2004
The last week of creative output has been a bit stifled thanks to the virus writers of the world. My band-mate, John, is an IT consultant in his spare time and alas has a few clients who can't take instructions. (Yes, I know, if it weren't for viruses and daft clients, PC IT jobs would be a lot less successful.) On Weds last when we got together he passed out mid-evening and Sat night he was rather late showing up at the pub. (It didn't help that our Nation in Shadowbane had 10 banes to defend over the weekend.)
That is not to say that we have not done anything. I managed to produce another song while waiting for John on Weds. He was purturbed to find me scribbling away upon his arrival at "our" table (I prefer the epithet "you bastard" to what was heard eminating from his lips.). John has produced several ideas for music for the various lyrics. In an attempt to slow down my lyric output, John has suggested that I have a go at coming up with the music for the various tunes that are left. I shall be heading into the bathroom to see what I can come up with for the remaining songs. We have managed to fully complete a song. Oddly enough, considering its creators, it has turned out to be something that would be right at home on a Poco or Eagles album. Our first two songs have been a power ballad and a country-tinged ballad...next one is going to be heads-down full on rocker.
Oh yes, and I found myself swearing out loud about our bloody lyricist (ie me). I have come up with an easy solution. Andrew writes the lyrics and Marty has to sing them. Then, when I am trying to sing some awkward tongue-twister I can blame someone else for it.
We are still looking for suggestions for the name of our band. Here is a list of those suggested so far. Some are rather clever, rather amusing, and rather odd:
Crash and Burn
Burnout
A Touch of Grey
Denial
Beentheredonethat
CD Cleaner
BTDT
Midlife Run
A.ll I. D.id (A.ndrew I.an D.odge)
Rolling Moss
Road Trip
ESP
the guru's
Tequila Eclipse
or
Tequila Escape
Blackout
Chill and Burn
Chili Con Cerveza
Viagramatics
Van Hazbeen
Alimony Alibi
Dodge Ball
Lemonheads
The Smoking Guns
Advance Warning
Last Call
Hope Springs Eternal
Midlife Chrysler
Whelm
Mean Jack
Meanwhile, over at Cold Fury, veteran rocker Mike bemoans the demise of country music and wonders if rock is on its way out as well.
