Bad Boys II - DVD

I haven't watched a big action/comedy in a long time. The genre was so prevalent in the 80's with the likes of Die Hard, Beverly Hills Cop, Lethal Weapon and a bunch of other movies that were capable of straddling the line of comedy and serious action. For whatever reason, that type of movie seems to have fallen out of favor with American audiences. The movie made approximate $140 million in U.S. box-office totals, but the budget was $130 million. After DVD business and foreign box-office are taken into account, I am sure they did fine, but it wasn't the overwhelming success that I am sure they were hoping for.
Regardless, Bad Boys 2 was a pretty good return to form for the action/comedy genre. The movie was funny, exciting, and moved quickly. It was pretty violent and the viewer has to suspend disbelief, but that is pretty typical.
Martin Lawrence and Will Smith return to the characters that they played in 1995; Detectives Marcus Burnette and Mike Lowrey. They spend the movie fighting a Cuban drug dealer in Miami. They blow up a whole bunch of stuff on the way to the movie's conclusion. Twists are provided by the rivalry between two drug trades, a love story between Smith's character and his partner's sister, Sidney, as well as the Cuban army, believe it or not. I said you were going to have to suspend disbelief.
Overall, this movie was very entertaining. As long as you keep your expectations in check, I think you will enjoy it. Don't look for enlightenment and you will be fine. Funny lines, ultra-violence, huge explosions and car chases. This is what those great movies of the 80's were made of. This is what you get with Bad Boys 2.

Yeah, I thought they were somehow tipped off by the other Jamaican informant type guy who was giving the Bad Boys a lot of bad info. That and the whole KKK angle was pretty damn funny.

I can't remember BB I, but I thought BB II was ok. I really like Will Smith and kind of like Martin Lawrence. I think they do well together, and the scenes at Lawrence's house were funny.
I was confused by the gang of Jamaicans. There was a scene with their narc, and then the next thing you know, this gang of Jamaicans was messing everything up. I wasn't sure if they were tipped off by the narc or what.
