Mud man dies

CMU reports:
Les Gray, the lead singer with seventies glam rock band Mud, has died aged
57. He died of a heart attack in his home in Portugal after a long running battle with throat cancer. That illness had led to doctors suggesting he should have his voicebox removed, however Gray opted for more painful chemotherapy instead so he could continue to sing.
Gray had been due to perform at a charity concert in Scotland this weekend
alongside fellow seventies acts Alvin Stardust, Marmalade and Middle of the Road. That gig will now be staged as a tribute concert for Gray.
Event organiser Caroline McFarlan told reporters: "He was using this concert to give him a focus for his recovery, and offered to MC for the event and sing if he felt up for it. It will now be a fitting tribute to a very popular star."
Mud had three UK number ones in the mid-70s with 'Lonely This Christmas',
'Oh Boy' and 'Tiger Feet - the latter the biggest-selling single of 1974.
