Watching the Special Edition of Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle on DVD won't turn the movie into "Citizen Kane", but then again, I don't think anyone sees this movie in the theatre or on DVD expecting a classic. CAFTSE comes with two commentaries, one by the director, McG, and one by the writers John August, Cormac Wibberley and Marianne Wibberley. The writers said the purpose of their commentary was "to prove writers were actually involved." But you get to hear tidbits like how the movie was to be "Charlie's Angels: Halo" until the Sony marketing team changed it, and that the "Helen Zass" subplot didn't get added till the third draft.

McG's commentary consists mostly of explaining how the CG was blended in, and pointing out the pop-culture and movie references sprinkled liberally through the plot. (I missed some in the initial watching, but then again, I didn't know there was a person named Pink until my teen-age daughter told me.) McG is equipped with a telestrator, so he can touch up and highlight some of the scenes. You can also run the movie in "Angel-Vision Trivia Track" which resembles the pop-up video feature that used to be on VH-1.

There are also a number of mini-documentaries: one focusing on the cars in the movie; one on the clothes; one on the shooting; one on the stars doing cameos. Throw in some movie trailers and a music video by Pink, and you've about covered the features available from a DVD player.

If you put the DVD in a computer instead, you get led to a few online features, including an online game demo, some animated webisodes, and links to where you can spend money online. It's probably nothing you couldn't do without the DVD.

Compared to some of the mega-Special Edition DVDs, like in the LOTR series or Pirates of the Caribbean, there's not as much here. Of course, enterprising teen-age boys can probably freeze-frame and capture the many butt-wiggling and hair tossing scenes. If you are shopping, there's also a "Special Unrated Widescreen Edition" which apparently adds a little more on the violence side, but not more on the skin side.
